We have prepared a comparison of the best solid hard drives of the year and we will tell you where to buy them at the best price.

The prices of SSD hard drives are falling more and more and are finally affordable enough to consider updating our computer and getting it to fly again by getting rid of our old HDD.

We will present you the best options with different storage capacities: from approximately 120GB through 256GB, 500GB to the TB level (1TB, 2TB or even 4TB). Of course, we compare some albums with others and we tell you which are the best options.

First, we are going to resolve some doubts; the first is this critical question. The SSD (of the English Solid State Drive ) are data storage device to the same as a traditional hard drive (HDD), which has become very popular in recent years.

NAND memory chips are responsible for storing the information in an SSD, the controller is responsible for managing the SSD operation (it does all the blackwork).

Therefore it is the most critical component for better performance and more excellent durability. Finally, the data and power connectors connect the SSD to the motherboard and the power supply, respectively.

Samsung 860 PRO 512GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76P512BW)
  • Storage Capacity: 512GB SSD.
  • Form Factor: 2.5” SATA III.

May you like: Best SD Card

Most reasonably priced SSDs are between 120GB and 1TB, although this changes quickly over time. Every time we can buy more capacity for less money.

Another consideration is the lifespan of the SSD. If you are going to buy it for a home computer or to play on a PC, it should last for many years without problem. If your computer will perform a lot of read / write operations (for example, video editing), pay attention to this feature.

See if the SSD comes with error protection and encryption. Important. Some brands advertise it and others don’t, but it would always be advisable for them to have these characteristics.

  • Most SSDs are 2.5 ″ SATA and 7mm thick, but some older models are a bit thicker at 9.5mm. This can be a problem on some laptops.
  • Other form factors, such as mSATA and M.2, are very small and designed for use in notebook computers. The length of particular M.2 drives can vary so you will have to check what type of drive your laptop uses first. Also keep in mind that you will likely need some kind of M.2 / mSATA to SATA / USB adapter to copy files from one drive to another.
  • NVMe SSD drives will give you tremendous speeds
  • Some SSDs do not come with extras, but in others, you will find adapters, spacers, or even mounting kits.
  • Make sure to update the firmware to improve SSD performance.

The performance of your computer with an SSD will improve by 1000 × 1000. SSD hard drives use a technology called “NAND flash memory“, where data is stored in cells.

Depending on the SSD, these cells can store one or two bits of information at a time. These disks do not move like HDDs to store data and fragmentation is not a problem.

Consequence? The read/write speed is much higher and more efficient. This will be more useful using Photoshop or in games, but it will not be so noticeable if you handle a lot of data.

  • Fact! A typical HDD can reach around 125MB / s read and write, while a decent SSD will hit 500MB / s read and write.
  • SSD drives are perfect for giving your old laptop a new life or improving NAS performance, especially if you buy an M.2 SSD. NVME (Better this option than buying a model with MSATA)

FACT! PCIe Gen. 4 technology is optimized for high-end gaming (not intended for NAS or server environments).

The prices of an SSD hard drive vary a lot based on its form factor and capacity… and the speed they offer.

A few examples:

  • Crucial BX500 240GB CT240BX500SSD1 Internal Solid State Drive, up to 540MB / s costs less than 40 $.
  • SanDisk SDSSDA-240G Plus – Internal 240GB Solid Drive, SATA III SSD, up to 530MB / s costs less than 40 $.
  • Crucial MX500 1TB CT1000MX500SSD1 Internal Solid State Drive – up to 560 MB / s (3D NAND, SATA, 2.5 Inch) costs less than 100$.
  • Crucial P2 CT1000P2SSD8 Internal Solid Hard Drive SSD 1TB, up to 2400 MB / s (3D NAND, NVMe, PCIe, M.2) costs less than 100$
  • Samsung 970 Evo Plus, Solid State Drive M.2 1000GB V-NAND MLC, PCI Express 3.0 costs less than 200 $.
  • Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB NVMe SSD, Gen3 x4 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND costs less than 80 $.

You have very good options for portable hard drives that you can use as a complement to your laptop or your desktop PC. Easy to use (you just have to connect them to a port on your computer) and really fast when compared to mechanical disk options.

They are the perfect option to expand your storage on Macbook or iMac computers (difficult to update the internal hard drive on these computers).

The SSD or solid state drives are the component fashionable today, the arrival of this storage technology has revolutionized modern computing, to the extent that the gourmets consider them as indispensable today.

Speed, longevity and short waiting times are a basic component and it is worth the cost of a dollar that we invest in it. To continue working hard, we would like you to share it on your social networks and this information reaches more people .

I also encourage you to leave a comment with your impressions or if it helped you . What SSD do you have? What SSD do you want to buy or are you thinking about? You can ask us in the comment box below or on our hardware forum !
